Untapped Kumamoto

Let me help you discover untapped experiences

御輿来海岸(Okoshiki shore) ripple marks

It was the middle of May.

Me and my friend went to Okoshiki kaigan (御輿来海岸 Okoshiki shore) which is located in Uto-city and it was actually our first time to go out together.

At first, let me introduce Uto-city.

Uto-city is located in the center of Kumamoto-prefecture and it takes about 30-40 minutes by car from the centre of Kumamoto-city.

Since Uto-city is blessed with the great source of sea and mountains, it’s famous for seafood like squids and prawns and fruits like dekopons(one kind of orange) and melons.

Long back the emperor Keikou was passing by the shore on a beautiful day, fascinated with the beautiful scenery he asked his servants to stop his 御輿(Mikoshi which is a portable shrine and he was on) there and that’s how thename ‘Okoshiki kaigan’ was originated.

Okoshiki kaigan is facing Ariake sea.

We can see the big difference between ebb and tide in Ariake sea and it has created this beautiful ripple marks.

Nice breeze(*´∀`*)

Photographers from all around Japan go there to take beautiful photos.

You’d better to check the time of ebb and tide in advance.

Also there is a shrine called Daiei inari jinja (大榮稲荷神社 Daiei inari shrine) which is located on the high ground.

We can see the panoramic view from there.

It’s very photogenic to capture this beautiful shrine and ripple marks.

The roads to the top of the hill is narrow so if you’re not confident of driving, I recommend you to go with smaller car(there are some big bans though..).

Enjoy the picturesque scenery with the ripple marks and the shrine.

It’ll convey many different expressions in accordance to the season, climate and time of day.
